How To Lose Weight and Keep it Off

Updated: Jan 27, 2020

Let me know if this sounds familiar at all.

You've set a goal to lose that extra 15 lbs and really get in shape.

This time is different, you are determined to not let anything stand in your way and you are going to crush your goal!

A week has gone by and you're off to a great start, you've already lost a few lbs!! YES!!

Then a few more weeks go by, the weight stopped coming off or maybe your commitment falters a little... you allow a little break.

And then before you know it you are back where you started...

There are two options here, start again or don't.

And I want to cover a few things that can help along the ways, firstly is about reaching your goal.

Here's the thing about reaching your goal

There are fundamental truths that you need in order reach a goal.

1) Show Gratitude

  • If you're ever wanting anything to change, be grateful for what you have.

2) Take Action

  • Even if you fail once, take heart that you did more than someone who didn't even try because they were afraid they would fail. Never be afraid to fail, failure is just a lesson learned, but don't let it the failure stop you from taking action again.

3) Stop Trying to Convince the Haters

  • I know this may sound a bit false, but if you've ever set a life changing goal, the people in your life will cheer you on at first and unfortunately, once you start making real changes, they will feel left behind and then try to tear you down. It may not seem like that is what they're doing, but it could also be a factor to you not reaching your goals.

Now it's time to get into the juicy details.

How to make your weight loss goals stick

The first 3 tips above are to help get you started.

These next tips are to make to help keep going and living the healthy lifestyle you want and deserve.

1) Join a support group

  • This is absolutely vital to your success! If you don't believe me, check out this book that covers why and how this step has been your weakness to succeeding. Change or Die by Alan Deutschman. To sum up the book, those you spend the most time with, will affect your life the most.

  • What kind of support group. A support group doesn't have to be a physical group though they could be more powerful in helping to hold you accountable. A support group can also be a virtual group, but it has to be something that you can be in contact with daily or weekly.

2) Plan your meals and snacks ahead

  • Depending on your personality, this could be your easiest or hardest task to tackle. For me, it's hard, I tend to be the one that flies by the seat of my pants and goes with the flow, so if you're like me, make sure to have a food planning session. Have grab and go snack that aren't just granola bars and make sure to grab my 3 healthy breakfast ideas if you often find yourself in a hurry in the morning. It does take practice and having a support group to share ideas and encouragement will make difference if this is something you struggle with.

  • Now if you're the absolute best planner, make sure to share you tips of how you plan with your group.

3) Boost your hydration

  • If you've ever struggled with water, I get it, it's not for everyone, but in order to succeed, you need to increase your hydration and here are 6 reasons why.

4) Make it a game and have fun

  • If you treat losing weight as a chore, as something that needs to be done, you won't last very long. I know because I've been there.

  • So make sure to pull in a friendly competition or challenge for a week, throw in a new recipe to make things exciting, celebrate the wins throughout the week and month with a dance party.

5) Move around

  • This may sound a little obvious, "well of course I'm going to move around and exercise to reach my weight loss goals!" However, learning to use this instead of eating when you're stressed is what needs to be learned.

  • I know you know, what is your go to when you've had an especially stressful day? Mine... Ice cream or chocolate.

  • So if you've gotten to this point, you'll have learned that having a support group, planning ahead and drinking lots of water can help with reaching your goals, but not being aware of how you de-stress can break it. Now instead of reaching for that cookie, candy, soda, or driving to that fast-food drive-in, go for walk, dance, do some squats to de-stress and you'll be at your dream weight in no time.

Before you go, I want to say one last thing.
