I don't know about you, but I have to have variety in my workouts, otherwise I get bored with the movement, which why I love to mix in some kickboxing to my routines.
And to help convince you why, I thought these 6 benefits of adding Kickboxing cardio to your routine would help you know why and how it can give you the same cardio workout or better.

6) Melts Fat Fast

I know for me, this is one of the main reasons I work out, to burn fat and have lean muscle replace it, but how does kickboxing give you more than, say running?
Let's dive into that.
Kickboxing is a mix between punching, kicking, moving around like a dance, and practicing breathing as you kick and punch.
So not only do we get that cardio workout, but also we get a bit of endurance training, speed, and power (especially if you have a bag to punch, but totally can do this without a punching bag).
Combine these together and you can burn around 750 calories per hour!
To give you an idea of what that looks like, let's compare it to rowing or jump rope, doing these exercises will burn around 600 calories per hour.
So that's 150 extra calories per hour that you would be burning, so we'll be getting a good workout.
Here's the best part, kickboxing has also been shown to burn that pesky belly fat.
5) Tone your Entire Body
Let's imagine for moment, it's summer, you have been working out and you can't wait to show off your abs that have come through in your new swim suit... OH YEAH!! Is what comes to my mind, what about you?
This is what will happen when using kickboxing in your cardio routine.

Let's also cover why kickboxing tones the entire body.
There are two main things:
Every punch: the jabs, the hooks, the upper cuts, and the cross punches are working more than just your arms. It will be working your abs and your hips.
Every kick, the round house kicks, the front kicks, the side kicks, and the back kicks are working again your abs, your arms (you got keep your hands up to block of course) and definitely your legs.
Your whole body is engaged to put power and strength behind each and every movement.

I have always been independent and like to be able to protect myself.

I know I do and have with work, with life, with my kids, with my husband...
Stress is a constant part of life.
Now there are some great ways to help improve your mindset that I cover in this post under the first section, but working out is also a great way to let the stress melt away, especially when using kickboxing.

Just imagine, you've had an especially stressful day at work with a co-worker or boss; or your kids are especially trying today... so instead of taking it out on them and cool off in a less "get yourself fired or yelling at the top of your lungs" sort of way...
Start a kickboxing workout.
Yes I mean right there in the moment, well maybe not right there in the moment. You don't want your kids or co-workers to think you are trying to punch/kick them.
Go outside or if you're home, put on some music and start that kickboxing workout.
You'll be amazed at how just punching/kicking lets the stress and aggression just float away... ahh.
One thing you will also start to notice when you have been doing it regularly, how much easier it is to remain calm in stressful situations.
Your body and mind have become more equipped physically and emotionally to handle the stress.
Now we are getting close to my favorite part of using kickboxing... it's at the end.
I always save the best for last. ;)
2) Improved Endurance
Improved endurance can transfer into all aspects of life:
Running longer distances
Keeping up with your kids
Going for a bike ride
How does kickboxing really help though improve your endurance?
When learning to punch and kick, one thing you'll want to remember is your breath.
This is also something you learn with yoga and pilates, it's just a little bit faster.
By having more control and awareness brought to your breathing, your lung capacity increases, which in turn helps to improve your endurance.
The more oxygen you get to your heart the healthier you are as well.
Talk about a win win with this one!
Now to the final reason and my favorite...
1) Feel More Sexy and Confident
My favorite by far!!
This is actually the reason why I LOVE Karate/Kickboxing!
Every single one of the above leads to this because the more the others improve, the more sexy you feel and in turn the confident you feel in the way you show up.
